How often should you change your furnace filter?

A clogged filter is the most common cause of weak airflow and high bills. Here is how often to swap yours, and which MERV rating to choose.

Standard one-inch filters should be replaced every one to three months. Thicker media filters last six to twelve months. If you have pets, allergies or renovation dust, check monthly.

Which MERV rating?

MERV 8 to 11 suits most homes. MERV 13 captures fine particles like smoke and bacteria, but check that your system can handle the extra resistance. Ask us at your next tune-up.
