10 gentle tips for settling in at daycare

Short goodbyes, a favourite toy and a little routine go a long way. Our teachers share what really helps on the first days.

Starting daycare is a big step for the whole family. A few tears are completely normal, for children and grown-ups, and most little ones settle within two or three weeks.

Keep goodbyes short and sweet

A hug, a cheerful goodbye and a promise of when you will be back. Lingering at the door makes it harder for everyone.

Bring a little piece of home

A comforter, a family photo for the room wall or a T-shirt that smells of home can be very soothing at nap time.

Talk about the day together

Use the photos in the app to chat about what happened. Children love telling you about the mud kitchen and the friends they made.
