When to switch to winter tires (hint: it is not the first snow)

The 7°C rule, why cold rubber loses grip and how to time your seasonal changeover before the rush.

Most drivers wait for the first snowfall, then everyone books the same week. The better trigger is temperature: once daytime highs stay below about 7°C, summer and all-season compounds start to harden and stopping distances grow.

Why winter rubber works

Winter tires use a softer compound and thousands of small sipes that bite into ice and slush. They stay flexible in the cold, which is where the grip comes from.

Book early, skip the line

Reserve a changeover slot in early autumn. If your winter set is in our tire hotel, it will be cleaned, checked and ready before you arrive.
